Low back pain and leg pain? 😣

It may be time to improve coordination, control and strength in your butt!

Low back pain is a very prevalent condition! In fact 86% of the population will suffer with 1-2 severe bouts in there life that takes them out of work and really out of commission for several weeks! Research shows us that when we look at what is causing low back pain:

⏺ONLY 1% is SERIOUS ie needs medical attention now, like an MRI or needs to be in the ER. What is considered serious us: cancer, fracture or infection

⏺9-10% can be from disc or nerve root issues

⏺90% is what we call “non-specific” ie they can’t diagnose an offending cause in a tissue

This is all very good news because we can move forward with specific assessment and therapeutic intervention following clearing of any serious concerns, which are rare!

Many patients fall into the “nonspecific” category and generally have a muscle imbalance or movement abnormality driving the presentation or pain!

In this case, the athlete has trouble controlling and supporting his low back in single leg 🦵 positions due to hip weakness. So the forces through his legs, go right into his back and perpetuate his pain!
